Tone Škarja becomes an Honorary Member of the PZS

At the Alpine Association of Slovenia’s ceremony in Laško Tone Škarja, one of the key figures of Slovenia’s success story in the Himalayas, was named an honorary member in recognition of his lifelong work in the association and outstanding achievements that have helped developed the reputation of Slovenian alpinism.
At a ceremony held in the town of Laško, which was organized on December 7, 2019, in collaboration with the Laško Alpine Club and the Municipality of Laško, the Alpine Association of Slovenia awarded the highest PZS prizes for 2019: eleven individuals received congratulatory plaques for their efforts within the mountaineering association, and twenty-five people received awards for successful and committed activities.

The PZS also handed out six special achievement awards and Tone Škarja, one of the key figures of Slovenia’s success story in the Himalayas, was named an honorary member in recognition of his lifelong work in the association and outstanding achievements that have helped developed the reputation of Slovenian alpinism. The General Secretary of the Alpine Convention Alenka Smerkolj was the guest speaker at the event.

Planinska zveza Slovenije se je na svečani prireditvi v Laškem s priznanjem častni član PZS poklonila enemu od tvorcev slovenske himalajske zgodbe Tonetu Škarji za življenjsko delo, ki obsega dolgoletno delo v planinski organizaciji in izjemne dosežke, ki dvigajo ugled slovenskega alpinizma doma in v tujini.
