Minutes from the BMU meeting in Pleven, Bulgaria, May 30th 2015

The meeting took place in TuristicheskidomKailaka, Pleven, in the beautiful park hosted by the mountaineering club “Kailashkadolina” as part of the events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS).
The welcome notes were given by the BMU president prof.d-r. JovicaUgrinovski and prof. Alexey Stoev, president of BTS.

The meeting attended the presidents and delegates from eight member countries of BMU: Albania, Bosnia &Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey excerpt the delegates from Croatia and Greece.
Besides the regular members of BMU, the meeting was supposed to attend the representative of ERA (European Rambling Association) but he cancelled his presence in the last minute. The overall number of delegates was 30.

• The minutes from the previous meeting held in Konjic, B&H, were unanimously approved.

• The project: Ten Balkan Peaks initiated by the Bulgarian Tourist Organization (BTS) during the BMU meeting in Litohoro, Greece was presented by Ivajlo Hristov from the BTS. Venceslav Udev, general secretary of BTS, presented the idea of publishing the membership booklet. The idea was approved by the delegates. The accomplishment of this project focusing on the activities is necessary (inclusion of peaks of each BMU member country) which will represent the continuity of the Bulgarian project 100 highest peaks in Bulgaria (18.000 Bulgarian mountaineers as well as mountaineers from other countries already have this kind of booklet. The next 10 years the number of one million members is estimated). The aim of the project is to stimulate the mountaineering and mountain tourism.Each year one of the BMU member countries has to be the host country.Bulgaria will print the booklets for the price of1 euro each, 10.000 total number.

• The Youth camp 2015 organized by UIAA and Macedonian Mountaineering Sport Federation (FPSM) was announced by Katica Acevska from FPSM. The youth camp will take place in Macedonia, the canyon of Matka, August, 2015. Each BMU member country has to delegate 3 participants.

• The BMU project Mountain huts on BMU website which started last year was presented by Bojan Rotovnik, president of the Alpine Association of Slovenia(PZS). 652 huts already have been included in the project and published on BMU magazine. The number of visitors of the web page is 500 (mostly from Slovenia and Croatia). The BMU president suggested the protection of the project and the logo. The link to the official web sites of all BMU members has to be done.

• The forthcoming BMU international orienteering competition was announced by the PZS president Bojan Rotovnik. Slovenia will organize this competition next year under umbrella of the BMU. Each BMU country in a raw will be the organizer of this competition. Slovenia 2016, Serbia 2017 and BiH 2018. The participants have to be the teams, not individuals Following disciplines will be included: mountaineering orientation, the usage of knots, maps etc. PZS will prepare the rules. By the end of September 2015 the remarks from the member countries to be send for approval. (Serbia has to prepare the propositions) This will be the project in progress. Contact PZS Slovenia. The number of teams is not limited,only 2 teams could be taken for the official competition.

• The report from the BMU Ararat winter climb, January 2015 was given by the Turkish Mountain Federation (TDF) president Alaattin Karaca. The climb attended 39 participants from 4 countries. Because of the severe winter conditions they didn’t reach the peak.

• Kilimanjaro climbing project 2016 was announced and presented by ZivkoTemelkoski, expedition leader and member of FPSM. According to his previous experience he suggested the Marango route. Preview January 2016. 3-5 participants from each country. Total number of 20-22 was accepted.

• The project BMU chronology was successfully realized and posted on the BMU web site by Katica Acevska (FPSM) and Mirko Deticek Mountaineering Association of Serbia (PSS)

• ERA presentation. Due to the absence of the ERA representative thepresentation was given by Boris Micic, PSS.Excerpt Turkey all the Balkan countries are members of ERA (ERA paths: 55.000km).
Eurorando 2016 will be organized inSvane,Sweden, September 10-17.
September 27, 2015will be the opening of Eurorando in Bratislava, Slovakia.
• New BMU project was suggested by the president of PZSBojanRotovnik.
Project proposal: Creation of a Common map of all BMU trails.
1700 mountain trails circa 10.000km has already been mapped in Slovenia. The trails were maintained, scanned by GPS and put on the PZS web site by volunteers with thedetails of the clubs who are in charge to maintain the trails.
• Alekxey Stoev, president of BTU announced the climb on the Chernivrh, Vitoshamountain celebrating the 120 anniversary of BTS (165 clubs, 35,000 members). All BMU members are invited to the climb by BTS,August 30, 2015.

• The next BMU meeting will be organized by theMountaineering Association of Serbia,last weekend of May, 2016.

The tour of the Pleven city and the beautiful Pleven park was organized by the host.
