WESTERN MACEDONIAN TRAVERSE
MOUNTENEERING SPORT CLUB “TRANSVERZALEC” – SKOPJE, MACEDONIA
is inviting
the Mountaineering associations and mountaineers to participate to the WESTERN MACEDONIAN TRAVERSE that will take place July 1st – 10th, 2016. The hiking traverse will be guided by licensed mountaineering guides.
• The meeting point of the participants will be the Mountain Hut “Ljuboten”, Popova Shapka Mountain, Macedonia, July 1st, 2016. The transportation from the capital Skopje to the mountain hut “Ljuboten” will be provided by the organizer
• The traverse will start the next day, July 2nd at 06.00 am
• Entry fee for the traverse is 30 Euros per participant (extra charge of 80 Euros for the luggage horse transport, the first five days to Mavrovo)
• Entry fee can be paid to the Bank account 300000000307817, Komercijalna Banka AD Skopje
• The traverse diary could be bought at the outset (10 Euros).
Food for the first four days and full bivouac equipment will be provided by the participant. The trail is nearly 225 km, with an average elevation of 2200 meters above sea level in the first four days. Therefore pay attention on the equipment, it must be complete but not too heavy. The total altitude variation that goes from start to the end of the traverse is 6000 meters.
Please note that daily hike is 7 to 9 hours effectively.
All registered participants will be welcomed in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia.

Basic Information:
The trail is set in 1975 by a group of Macedonian mountaineers from the Mountaineering club “ELEMA” from Skopje. Over the years the Traverse has undergone some adjustments and the final version was set in 1982/83, and introduced in July 1985 with the passage of a group of thirty mountaineers of all 6 republics of ex-Yugoslavia.
The Western Macedonian Traverse is hiking trail that runs from Ljuboten to Ohrid. In its features it is the longest hiking trail in Macedonia, and is probably one of the more difficult hiking trails of this type in Europe.
WESTERN MACEDONIAN TRAVERSE passes across Western Macedonia through the arrays of Shar Planina, Rudoka, Vratsa, Bistra, and Stogovo through Karaorman to Ohrid, with a total length of 225 km.
Characteristic of the first half of the traverse, while passing through Shar mountain massif, is relatively high altitude, the lowest point is 2,100 meters above sea level. Also track passes through 5 mountain lakes, of total 15 Shar Mountain lakes that can be found at Shar mountain massif.
The second part of the traverse features with forest areas and fast mountain rivers which cascades down through the slopes forming countless waterfalls. Perhaps most interesting are the villages through which Traverse passes, Selce, Tresonce, Lazaropole and Gari with an abundance of old Macedonian architecture specific to this part of the Balkans. Traverse final spot is the town of Ohrid, with its numerous Byzantine churches, and beautiful Ohrid Lake. For this city are bound the first European university and the beginnings of Slavic literacy.
Accommodation on the last day of the traverse is at the Ohrid Scout camp.
We hope that this extraordinary Traverse will provoke interest to join us this summer in exploring the mix of natural beauties and cultural and historical landmarks of Macedonia.

Планинарските асоцијации и планинарите да учествуваат на Западната македонска трансверзала која ќе се одржи од 1-10 јули, 2016. Трансверзалата ќе биде водена од лиценцирани планински водичи.
Почетна точка ќе биде Планинарскиот дом Љуботен, Попова Шапка, на 1 јуни. Превозот од Скопје до планинарскиот дом Љуботен го обезбедува организаторот.
• Планинарењето започнува следниот ден, 2 јули во 06.00 часот.
• Котизацијата за секој учесник изнесува 30 евра (додатни 80 евра за оние кои сакаат првите пет дена до Марврово багажот да им биде носен на коњ)
• Котизацијата треба да биде платена на сметката бр: 300000000307817, Комерцијална банка АД Скопје
• Дневникот за трансверзалата може да се купи на стартот (10 евра)
Храна и полна планинарска опрема обезбедува секој учесник. Патеката е околу 225 км, со просечна височина од 2.200м во првите четири дена. Затоа, треба да се води сметка за опремата, треба да е комплетна, но не премногу тешка. Вкупната височинска варијација од стартот до целта изнесува 6.000м.
Имајте предвид дека дневно ефективно ќе се пешачи 7-9 часа.
